What We Do

The Golden Ratio is an FTC (First Tech Challenge) team. Each year, FTC teams design, build and program a robot to complete specific task challenges. The tasks change every year. Teams take their finished robot to competitions and compete against other teams completing the same challenge in a friendly alliance format. Guided by adult mentors from the professional world, teams must raise funds, develop marketing materials, create an engineering notebook, learn programming skills, develop CAD drawings, and build a cohesive team all while practicing good design and engineering skills in building their robot.

Our first competition will be Saturday, November 9, from 9-1pm at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St., Barrington, IL.  Come join us and other local teams to see what the fun is all about!

Why The Golden Ratio?

The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio that is often found in nature and has been used for thousands of years by artists to create natural-looking compositions that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The Golden Ratio exhibits harmony and proportion and gives one the sense of “je ne sais quoi,” a French term for a pleasant quality that’s hard to describe, that little something extra that eludes description.

We picked this name because we want to be an FTC FIRST team that has that “little something extra” when it comes to how we treat each other and our community.  Our desire is not only to build an effective and aesthetically pleasing robot but to build an effective and aesthetically pleasing team that serves our community through Gracious Professionalism.™

We would love for you to join our equation and change the world one student at a time.
