Johnsburg Festival
On October second we went to the Johnsburg festival and set up a booth that had our minibot and one of our previous year’s robots. We had a few people at the stand at a time to drive the robots and to have a human player. As people went by and were interested in the robots we let them drive the mini bot on the half-made empty field. Other than just having a booth set up with the robots, we had a booth where we were selling ice cream from Dairy Queen which they let us sell to raise funds. There were a lot of people that got ice cream from our booth and we made about 110 sales. By selling about 110 ice cream bars we made around 250 dollars. During the outreach event, there were many people that were interested in the robots and wanted to drive them. Throughout the outreach event, there were a lot of younger kids that were interested in the robots and how driving them worked. Closer to the end of the fair there were fireworks that lasted about 10 minutes.
During the Johnsburg festival, we raised up to 250 dollars and might have gained three new company sponsorships for next season. For the newer members, this was the first time they got to demonstrate the robots to other people. We also accomplished interacting with and getting to know the community we serve.
Since this was the first community teaching experience for our whole team in over 1.5 years due to Covid, we forgot some important things like tools to repair the robot, tape, extra parts, etc. but we managed to pull it off and will make a list of what to remember for our next outreach.
